A.L.S. A. 17 Alexander Nicoll statos:- I have know the late A.L.S.A.47 Robertson practically all my life. We both join the hongkong Police Force in 1914 and went home in 1917 for active service. We spent two years together in France. We were both demobilized in March 1919 and spent three months at home (Dundee) before returning to the Colony. He (the deceased) once or twice told me while on leave that he was not keen on going back to Hongkong. I being an intimate friend of his advised him to come back. We arrived back in the Colony on the 2nd of August this year and were both transferred to No. 7 Police Station. The deceased has never said anything out of the ordinary to me since we came back except that after he had spent two days leave in the New Territory last month. He stated to me that he thought he had got a touch of the sun. He went into Hospital a few days after- -werdo. I have never seen anything strange in his manner and it come as a great surprise to me when I returned to the Station and heard what had occurred. The only thing that I can think of him doing such a thing. Being an intimate friend of his, he had told me on several occasions that he was never meant for a Policeman and seemed to dread going into the witness-box to give evidence as he had a slight stammer in his speech. It is only about a month ago that he had told me about a case that he had at Court. He then said, "If the Inspector had not got up and explained the case to the Lagistrate he, (the deceased) did not know how he could
manage it".
Robert MacDonald states:- I am Inspector at No. 7 Police Station. The late A.L.S.A. 47 Robertson returned to the Colony from Active Service on Saturday the 2nd August last and was trans- -ferred to No. 7 Police Station on the 5th of the same month. He was in the Fire Brigade Station in 1916 when I was there acting Station Officer, He was of a quiet disposition. The first 2 or 3 days after he returned to the Colony, he was in common with a
